How to Clean and Maintain Your Washing Machine

Your washing machine cleans your clothes — but who cleans the machine? Neglecting it leads to bad smells, residue buildup, and reduced performance. Here's how to keep it in top shape:

Monthly Drum Clean

Run an empty hot wash cycle with a capful of Cleanative laundry detergent. This removes detergent buildup, bacteria, and odours from inside the drum.

Clean the Detergent Drawer

Pull out the detergent drawer and rinse it under warm water. Use an old toothbrush to scrub out any soap scum or mould. Dry before reinserting.

Wipe the Door Seal

The rubber seal around the door is a hotspot for mould and lint. Wipe it down after every few washes with a damp cloth. For stubborn mould, apply a diluted cleaning solution and scrub gently.

Clean the Filter

Most front-loading machines have a filter at the bottom front. Check it monthly, remove any lint or debris, and rinse it clean.

Leave the Door Open After Each Wash

This allows moisture to escape and prevents mould growth inside the drum. A simple habit that makes a big difference.

A well-maintained machine means better wash results and a longer appliance lifespan.
